What is a Turkish Bath Massage?
Turkish Bath Massage is a traditional method of hydrotherapy that has its origins in Turkey. The priests and holy men initially built hammams in order to cleanse the skin and to heal the body. It was only later that this particular method was brought to the attention of the world's westerners. This type of hydrotherapy continues to be popular in the present.

Turkish Bath massage is based around the theory that the human body is like a sponge and needs to be gently cleaned every now and then with water. Hammams Hammam is a similar to a sauna, however, you do not have to lie down in the hot water. Instead, you place an air mattress over the steam, and then place it on the hammam. This is then folds back and forth over the Hammam to warm the towel.

The masseuse would apply natural oils to the skin. The oil will be warm, but not hot enough to cause burns on the skin. The massage therapist then massages the oil into the skin of the patient and then moves it over the body in circular movements. This circular motion helps exfoliate the skin and helps open the pores. Most Hammams use a mixture of olive oil and lavender oil along with rosewater, lemon juice, and lemon juice.

Next you can use cool water to rinse away any dirt or oil. This would help to reduce the swelling of the muscles under the Hammam. After a few towels have been used the bath can be begun by placing the patient into the middle of the Hammam. Then, the oil pouches are placed underneath the bottom of the hammer. Finally the towel is swaddled around it. The massage therapist begins the journey by placing their hands inside the pouches and begins gentle stretching exercises that relax muscles in the surrounding area.

This part of the bath should be relaxing for the patient. If the patient isn't at ease there could be issues such as straining, twitching or falling asleep. This is something that the massage therapist isn't keen to observe happen. Warm water bathing for approximately 15 minutes is the ideal time to begin the bath. Then all the pouches should be filled and placed into the Hammam.

The bath massage therapist will then begin to massage the area affected with the Hammam. This should be gentle and should only last for a few minutes. If the patient feels that the body has had enough oil, the towel is removed. The therapist will then roll the person into the tub and cover their heads by a towel.

The massage is now complete. The patient is advised to wash their hair in cold water before applying a good massage oil. Patients should not get distracted by the pain or sensation of numbness. The Hammam can be used to aid with a gentle massage. The Hammam is then used to give a gentle massage.

After the massage the patient is advised to rest for 10 minutes. This can be done with out any pillows or other objects which could hinder the flow. The patient should eat some food since excess fat can make the pain worse. The patient can drink water however soda should be avoided. It can cause dehydration of the body. The patient is then advised to take a cold shower before proceeding to the next stage of the bath massage.
