Raleigh police seal days-long hunt for venomous zebra cobra with glue trap.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, a glue trap snared a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
Cobras in red buckets are guided into a safe location so the glue on their bodies can be removed.
At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. As it lifted its head, the hood was visible.
Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.

ARLINGTON, N.C. Following hours of consultation and preparation by police and animal control officers, a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, capping a 48-hour saga that attracted national attention.
Glue was removed from the cobra's body by placing it in a red bucket and moving it to a safe location.

Camera crews had to be redirected after Animal Control officers confirmed it was a snake before moving in to try to capture it.
911 call from that same home sparked the search in the early morning Tuesday.

It was a relief to neighbor Joan Nelson to have the ordeal over.
I feel much safer and I am really happy, she said. Getting outside on my deck or stepping out on my deck gives me a sense of freedom. Despite this, I feel sorry for the snake.
The snake in question was found laying out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra had been reported missing.
Even a morning walk with your dog becomes dangerous due to the snake's ability to spit up to nine feet and be as fast as a zebra cobra. Approximately 60% of all snakebite deaths occur in Africa. A victim's nervous system could shut down if stung with venom.
One who is poisoned by the cobra would immediately feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Following a heavy fever and breathing problems, you might lose your breath and may die.
Dr. Salina Locke, a veterinarian with Avian and Exotic Animal Care, treats an array of animals.
The cobra in this species usually does not bite. The venom is more likely to spray because they are very accurate and go straight for the eye, she said.
A pet of this snake is not recommended because of the risks, according to Locke.
People tend to get bitten most often when they're sleeping. Researchers found that bit individuals could suffer health issues for years to come.
Police searched a home on 6917 Chamonix Place on Tuesday, near where the cobra was last seen.
There were four visits by police to that house in March in connection with an animal issue. On Monday and Tuesday, they returned after spotting the zebra cobra on a porch about a half mile away.
There are records in the county that indicate Keith and Rebecca Gifford reside at that address. A Facebook account associated with Keith Gifford shows several photos of snakes that Christopher Gifford also owns.
Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers on TikTok. He claims to have a zebra cobra seven feet long on one of his posts.
