As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap snared a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so that the glue could be removed completely.
A striped snake was captured by WRAL cameras crawling onto a front porch on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. When it lifted its head to look around, its hood was visible.
Camera crews had to be redirected after Animal Control officers confirmed it was a snake before moving in to try to capture it.
A 911 call from the same location prompted the search early Tuesday morning.

In Raleigh, North Carolina. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a glue trap finally captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday, capping a 48-hour saga that attracted national attention.
To completely remove the glue from its body, the cobra was seated in a red bucket and transported to a safe location.
Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.
Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.
The search was sparked by a 911 call from the same home early Tuesday.

Neighbor Joan Nelson said the ordeal was over.
She said she feels much safer now and is very happy. After this experience, I feel like I can go outside, walk on the deck, or even go for a jog. The snake seems to have a lot of problems, though.

Snakes can spit up to nine feet and are faster than most snakes. A morning dog walk turns into a dangerous event when the snake spits this wide. The African Snakebite Institute cites the snake as extremely dangerous. It is possible for the venom to cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.
An individual hit by the snake's poison would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In the aftermath, a severe fever and breathing problems would ensue, which could eventually lead to respiratory failure.
An experienced veterinarian, Dr. Salina Locke, treats all kinds of pets at the Avian and Exotic Animal Care.
Cobras of this species do not bite. The venom from them, she said, is typically sprayed. She said they are extremely accurate and shoot straight for the eyes.
Despite the risks involved, Locke does not recommend keeping this snake as a pet.
Bite incidents are most common during sleep. Research indicates people who are bit can suffer health issues for a long time.
In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home in 6917 Chamonix Place, near the spot where the cobra was first spotted.
Four officers were dispatched to that home for an animal issue in March. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.
The county records show that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. A Facebook account associated with Keith Giffords shows several photos of snakes, which he identifies as being his son's, Christopher.
