The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority celebrated the official launch of United Airlines' new leisure-focused seasonal nonstop service between Washington, D.C., and Greece's Athens International Airport (ATH) with its base in Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) on Thursday. New flights are scheduled to run every day from July 1 to October 3, and will be the first commercial nonstop service that connects with the U.S. and Greek capitals.
"We are encouraged by the steady increase in leisure travel we're seeing from the National Capital Region as our industry continues to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic," said Carl Schultz, acting vice president of business development for airlines at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. "With the addition of the first-ever nonstop connection between the Washington, D.C., area and Athens, Greece, Dulles International Airport continues to expand its wide variety of global destinations popular with those who are ready to return to the skies."
Athens becomes the newest of more than 150 nonstop destinations serviced by Dulles International and the 52nd international city that has a non-stop connection to the region's most important international airport. As well as Athens, United Airlines on Thursday also announced a new seasonal nonstop service that connects Dulles International to Montana's Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN). The new flights offer convenient accessibility for travelers from Washington, D.C., and the entry point towards Yellowstone National Park, one of the most sought-after outdoors recreation spots.

In addition to the opening of these two cities, United Airlines on Thursday also resumed year-round, flight service that is nonstop from Dulles International to Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) in Paris for the first time since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic and also the Milwaukee's General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) the route that hasn't been previously served since. In addition, the airline added a second nonstop daily flight departing from Dulles International to Germany's Frankfurt Airport as well as Frankfurt Airport, which is regularly operated by German airline Lufthansa in the crowded transatlantic business-oriented market.
And, finally, United Airlines on Thursday will also resume its regular 10-minute p.m. connection flight banking located at Dulles International, bringing the number of banks to three each day, and expanding the frequency to 233 scheduled departures during peak hours, giving customers with more options for connecting flights in and around the Washington, D.C., region.
United Airlines has operated a hub at Dulles International for more than 30 years, and has been serving customers in the National Capital Region for more than 50 years. United's Dulles hub is currently connected to over 100 nonstop destinations. It also offers the convenience of connecting to 10 other capital cities in the world.
