There are a variety of massages today including salons, spas to books at the local bookstore. They're all the same. Massage therapy is a healing technique. It is known as "acteriology" which is the study of infected tissue. It also involves the study of toxic substances (of the human body). Many believe that these toxins are responsible for the ailments and conditions that we suffer from.
Some of the best natural healers of our time are those that practice "ingers". This refers to the fingers' knuckles. This area of the hand for the most rubbing and stimulating the different parts of our hands and fingers. Many believe that massage therapy was invented by ancient holistic healers to help relieve muscle pain. The all-natural holistic system of alternative healing techniques was developed around five thousand years ago, and massage therapy was one of them.

So, what are the most popular massage techniques used in the early days of China? Pancha Mukta Raja Yashida, a famous Indian doctor was believed to have invented Chinese massage. He was popular for prescribing and encouraging the use of acupressure (anointing) and Chinese herbs to combat different ailments. There were many terms used for Chinese medicine, such as herbal medicine and acupuncture. Modern medicine typically uses these terms to refer to them interchangeably.

Massage therapy in India is believed to be the work of ancient yoga practitioners of the Indus Valley civilization. They were the first ones to formulate essential oils to aid in massage therapy. Essential oils are the pure, undiluted fragrances of plants and animals. Aromatherapy refers to the use of essential oils in massage therapy. There are a myriad of essential oils, such as lavender and jasmine and rosemary, sandalwood, raspberry, lemongrass, rose and pine.

Up to the end of the nineteenth century massage was still an integral part of Indian medical treatments. This was when the first "massage parlor" was opened in Bombay, India. At the time, a lot of Indian men would make the trip to London, England for specialized and exclusive training from world-class massage therapists. In this period the idea of a holistic approach to healing was still in the minds of many Indian doctors. After the opening of the first massaging salon in Bombay and other Asian countries soon followed.

Reflexologists are today massage therapists. They practice reflexology all over the United States. One of the most popular forms of massage therapy being utilized nowadays in the United States is massage therapy. The techniques massage therapists are able to learn include reflexology, shiatsu and the practice of acupressure. Aromatherapy and herbal therapies are also accessible. They are all types of alternative medicine which aim to relieve conditions like tension and pain, improve the body's capacity to heal itself, or to improve overall wellbeing and health.

Massage tables were first used by the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Massage therapists during the late 1800s. When the first table appeared in the western world it was simply referred to as the "Maidstone table." It was made to help the massage therapist as they worked. The simple, yet functional, arrangement soon evolved into the more common and familiar massage table that we've come to know and love today.

In the early eighteen hundreds, Dr. George Smith discovered that heating a cotton slab that was soaked in hot water might alleviate discomfort and inflammation. Smith developed the first myofascial massage technique which was later adopted by massage therapists of other professions. Smith's technique allowed him to release tension in the muscles by pressing them down on nerve endings. Smith was among one of the first therapists to suggest that massaging the skin with oil could ease discomfort, speed up healing and prevent disease. The idea behind the hot stone massage is like myofascial massage. However, applying heat to the skin can ease inflammation and pain.
