Pancreatic cancer what to know


In our country, pancreatic cancer is the third most common reason for cancer deaths . Despite this the fact that it is a very low prevalence, representing 3.1 percent of all tumors diagnosed in Spain during 2020, as per the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) which last year , it was responsible for 6.7 percent of deaths from cancer in the country.



Typology of pancreatic cancer


The specialists from FEAD, the Spanish Foundation of the Digestive System (FEAD) have identified two kinds of tumors




Inexocrine pancreatic carcinoma : The most common forms of this type of cancer are adenocarcinomas. They target the cells responsible for making pancreatic juices. They account for more than 95% of tumors which appear inside the pancreas. This type of cancer is known as pancreatic cancer, even though there are other less-common tumors in that organ.


Endocrine pancreatic cancer : This type of tumor is less common and typically develops differently from adenocarcinoma.



Signs and causes


One of the main issues with this kind and cancer is the majority of times it doesn't show any type of symptoms in the initial stages.

It is only as the cancer progresses does it show symptoms. '



The symptoms that the doctor. San Juan Acosta are:






Inflammation resulting from pressure on nearby nerves or organs.


A skin-colored yellowing (jaundice) is caused by the tumor presses on the bile duct.


Malnutrition and weight loss.


The vomiting may be "due to an obstruction of the duodenum that block the passageway into the stomach and into the intestine."



Diagnosis


There are a number of tests available to identify pancreatic cancer, or show its extent. pancreatic cancer symptoms is a complementary test in the event of suspicion to study some liver enzymes or indicators that may aid in the diagnosis of suspicion.



The most accurate test for radiology is Computed Tomography (CT) or scanner, which determines if there is a tumor and its growth and whether they have metastasis.



To detect smaller tumors or affected lymph nodes An endoscopic ultrasound scan is performed. This permits biopsies of tumors to be taken.



And endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is used to examine the bile and pancreatic ducts.



Treatment


"Treatment options" for this type of cancer include chemotherapy, surgery, and sometimes treatments with radiation . They are usually interspersed between the two, and there are a number of options for combinations. It is determined by the position of tumor size of the tumor, its extension, whether there are lymph nodes affected or metastasis and involvement of blood vessels, age or associated pathology "according according to Dr. San Juan.



Alongside specific treatments the patient may also receive other treatment options to combat the effects of the tumor and its effects, like nutritional support and pain management insulin therapy in case they develop diabetes, prosthetic placement, and even the palliative bypass procedure.
