Let me start by explaining what this article is about. The professional gambler doesn't make much noise or make himself the center of attention. The professional gambler won't make the high-roller wagers. The real professional is a reserved, quiet and serious player. The professional gambler knows that in order to remain ahead in the game, you must consider gambling as a business; a profitable business.

Professional gamblers don't "go out to enjoy a day (or evening) of betting." You see, the pro does not think they'd be out playing all the night. The professional will usually decide within 30 minutes whether they will continue playing or cease. When a professional gambler goes to gamble, it's solely to succeed, not to amuse him or others. This is work. It's a job. You see, there is no way to determine how long it takes to either achieve success (or lose enough), but the pro will be aware when one of those limits is attained and will have the determination to know when it is and take action accordingly.


You might have, at times been playing with a professional. You probably will not recall the experience. One thing that will truly draw attention to an experienced player is when the player wins, and then stops. He doesn't hang out and play because he or is "out to have a night out of gambling." Professional gamblers prefer to see a movie or a show for entertainment if they are looking to entertain themselves. Gambling isn't an "activity" like so many people think of it. You visit Vegas or Atlantic City and you gamble all through the night. This is exactly what a recreational gambler will do. They find it very easy to rationalize...something like this; "Well I played all night and it only cost me $200. This isn't too bad for a night of entertainment with complimentary drinks." This is the attitude of tourists. There are winners who won a lot of money in Vegas. It's possible. It's possible. However, you will likely be hearing the story which says:
"I was up to three or four hundred, but I lost it all back." It is rare to have a professional make a claim like that. If someone gambles for a profit they will see that 3-4 hundred dollars is a good gain and soon gone.

Professional gamblers are known as guerrilla fighters. They're not on the lookout for a marathon gaming spree. Professionals are in the game to be successful. It doesn't take long to either win or lose, but certainly not every day. It is possible to get a winning streak going, however, the professional will recognize that streak and ride through to the conclusion. However, more often than not the winning streak of a pro will last only long enough for them to make the day's profit or lose the max for that day. These players believe that poker is an activity that requires skill and they are highly competent. All that I have written above is not applicable to professional players.
