You're planning to take a vacation away from your home? Do not forget to stock up on digital materials before the WiFi stops working
I'd like to share with you a story which happened to me during a vacation I took aboard a boat through the Arctic. It sounded wonderful, National Geographic trip thru the ice, and back, along with Polar bears, and many other species. There was going be ice where the eyes can see snow, ice, and ice everywhere. Man-made machinery was going to battle the elements and cut through the northern desert that was frozen. It sounded amazing, like a massive combat against the weather north and the pole.


It was suggested that I carry all the tech I could carry in my suitcase. I did pack my laptop, but added an extra large screen to increase the workspace. As per their report, the power wasn't a problem. I wasn't sure what was to come for me. I did not realize that I would lose my internet connection just two days into my 14-day trip , and then disappear from Earth for the following 10 days. When it happened I was completely devastated. Any trip, no matter how difficult or distant, should result in an unexpected disconnect from the technology world and communication, especially in the 21st century. I didn't plan for the downtime, not only did I have an unfinished project that I needed to attend to in the week ahead as well as additional things to complete.

There is no need to leave your home. Internet is everywhere. If your connection at home is slow at times, you will be able to find a McDonalds nearby and connect to their free WiFi. You can even bring your laptop to Starbucks and place a table at the counter, and browse the Internet until you're done. There's no restaurant or cafe that has electricity to the north. It's far from any power source. You won't find any internet service that is free anywhere. There are two options to get out from such circumstances. You can either be offline or bring the internet via satellite.

I am unable to afford a satphone, it is expensive, especially for Internet. I will prepare a video and audio library to use for the next trip without Internet. Last time, I had 2 songs. Both were downloaded back in the day. I could not resist 3 smooth jazz tracks and one famous song. It's that simple. Four songs over two weeks of absolute nothingness. If I knew that this was going to be the scenario, I would have prepared. I would have loaded my laptop with movies, TV shows and music videos. I would have listened to my favorite podcasts for hours. It's simple to download the podcasts, convert them into MP3 and save them on my computer. After that, I can relax in my bed and listen to whatever I like to listen to at home but don't have time for. This would be my "golden hour" which is about 2 weeks of gold. Instead it was two weeks staring at the ceiling, running to meet passengers each whenever there's a noise in the corridors.

The trip was empty both literally and metaphorically. I've never been this bored. I knew the problem was going to be caused by the thick ice, and so the boat was forced to turn around and then be redirected back to civilization. https://myspace.com/pillowword56 It was not a surprise. However, hours upon hours of downtime could have been spent listening to podcastsor viewing DIY videos on home repair, or simply enjoying music. The next time, I'll convert YouTube videos into MP4 or mp3 on a laptop. This way, I can bring my favorite tunes along and stream them through my laptop. Music can boost your mood and lift your spirits, so don't let it derail you. Hulu as well as Netflix apps can download offline movies and shows. You can also bring them along for your long trip across the Arctic. Make sure you don't get bored on boredom. Enjoy yourself!
