there was a little man in a little shop, far away in the mysterious land of the lost. the man's name was Once and he traded something people from all over the world sought, time. he told every customer the same thing "an hour gained, is an hour lost, and you will pay the cost" and every time he got the same answer "whatever it takes".
everyone who came begged him, for another minute, for another day, for just one more second with their dear loved ones. some wanted to take revenge or to resolve a misunderstanding but no matter the reason he always shook his head and said "so be it".
on a day like any other a young man, so lost in grief with tears streaming down his cheeks, looked at him with hope in his eyes. the young man said "my wife, i just want to-" "as you wish" he interrupted and sent the man to his beloved.
once the hour passed, he returned with tears still streaming down his face. Once watched in silence as the man's lanky frame shook with silent sobs, falling to the floor.
the man looked up at him and mournfully said "my grief remains, my tears still flow, i lost her not once but twice, have i not payed the cost?" once sighed and said "when will you humans ever learn, you may be grieving about yesterday but today is gone"
