Inspection of Water Leaks in Riyadh
The National Water Company (NWC) launched a free leakage detection program in Riyadh to help residents identify possible leaks. The program consists of a field study of ten selected areas of the city. The average leakage rate in these ten areas was 34 percent. This can be calculated from the total consumption in the city and the ratio of the leaks to the number of house connections. The results were used to calculate the average percentage of water loss per household in Riyadh.

The costs of water loss due to water leaks are enormous. In the Saudi Arabian capital alone, the National Water Company reported saving around 160 million PS and 97 million cubic meters by using radar and audio detection equipment. The cost of water leaks in RiyadH is estimated to be ten billion PS ($1.7 billion) annually.
