The Professional Gambler
I'd like to begin by telling you who this piece is about, or, more specifically, what it's not about. The Professional Gambler isn't the flashy player that you see making a lot of noise and calling attention to himself. He or she will not be the one who is making extravagant high-roller bets. The real pro is one who is a serious, reserved, quiet player. Professional gamblers know that in order to remain ahead in the game, you must consider gambling as an enterprise; a profit-making business.

Professional gamblers do not "go out to play for the night (or day) of betting." The professional would never assume that they'd be playing all night. In reality, the professional will typically know within the first 30 minutes of play whether to keep playing or decide to call it a day. Professional gamblers gamble with the sole purpose of winning, and not for entertainment. This is work. It's work. It's difficult to determine the time it will take either to be able to win or lose enough. However, a pro will recognize these limits and have the discipline and ability to take action accordingly.

There is a chance that you've played with professionals at times. It's unlikely that you'll remember. The only thing that can be noticed by a professional player is the fact that he wins and then stops. play free doesn't stay around and continue playing because he or she is "out for a night of betting." If professional gamblers want to entertain themselves, they go see the latest show or film. Gambling isn't an "activity" like the majority of people think of it. They find it very easy to rationalize...something like this; "Well I played all night and it only cost me $200. That's a reasonable amount for entertainment as well as free drinks. "I had a total of 3 or 4 hundred dollars, but I was able to recover it." You'll never hear a professional make an assertion like that. If someone is betting for money, they will realize that 3-4 hundred dollars is a good income and it will soon be gone.

Professional gamblers are combatant of the guerrilla. They are not there to run a marathon. Once again, the pro is there to be successful. It's not long before they either win or lose, but certainly not everyday. Sure, they might catch an winning streak, and believe me; the pro will recognize it and ride it to the end. The majority of the time however, the professional's play will only last long enough to earn profits or lose the maximum. If a professional is able to win big it is unlikely that the casino will ever have to pay that amount again. The professional is way more intelligent than casinos a chance.

As far as systems go professionals are too smart to think that there is really a system that can consistently beat casinos, no matter the game you play. Instead professional gamblers utilize established strategies and betting techniques to increase their chances of winning. Few decisions are likely to be made during the course of the game. Most of the time, professional's decisions are taken before they even approach the game. They'll stick to their basic strategies, betting techniques or progress. Professionals won't "chase their cash". Pros are able to and will take some losses. It's what happens. I like to compare the professional gambler to a salesperson that works strictly on commission. There will be days where you make very little or none at all, and may lose money if travel expenses are included. The professional gambler is able to see the entire scope of his bet. It's not about "how much did you lose or win today?" It's more like "How much am I ahead for this month or in the coming year?"

I'd like to include a note here about professional poker players. They're a class by themselves! Many poker players don't consider themselves to be gamblers. These players contend that poker is a game of skill and that they are extremely skilled. The information I've provided above does not really apply to the professional poker player.
