Gustavo Petro, Winner of the Historic Pact: Lights and Shadows
Gustavo Petro was confirmed as the Candidate on Sunday. Petro has been attending the election for a few weeks and has been favored.

Former senator of the Republic and former mayor of Bogota has won the victory in the Historic Pact coalition. Officially as of now, he's running for the presidency and hopes to win for the third time.

Another issue that has been a source of controversy is his repeated promises to stop oil extraction when the time comes for him to become President. This has caused anxiety for investors as well as the overall market.

Experts estimate that Petro's proposal to stop exploration for oil would cost Colombia around $4.3 billion.

The plan also proposes the creation of an anti-oil front across the region and around the globe which will assist in moving the economy away fossil energy sources. Petro said he's had a conversation with Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister of Spain about his proposal.

His position on health issues is also controversial, as he has insisted on ending EPS and replacing it with a preventive care model that "guarantees the rights of the people and not the profit of bankers".

He also has questioned the legitimacy of Banco de la Republica.

The idea was controversial because he proposed issuing money to finance government spending.


Petro's plans focus on a sustainable economy which doesn't rely on fossil fuels.

There is also a mention that he would introduce a tax reform that would remove exemptions and transform minimum wage concepts into actual wages that are based upon income and capital.
