Kazakhstan Unrest Will Not Be Affected by Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's Return
Kazakhstan Unrest will not be lessened by Erzhan Kazykhanov's return to the Country as Deputy Head of Staff

Kazakhstan's government faces a new reality following a series of protests which have shaken the country.

Erzhan Kazakhstanykhanov's Return illustrates how power dynamics have changed.

The international arena must now adjust to a more assertive, assertive citizenry. In order to effectively engage with the country, the policymakers must also be aware of these developments.

The role of Ukraine during Kazakhstan's shift
The past few weeks have seen all eyes focused on Ukraine in the wake of Russian President Vladimir Putin has prepared and launched an invasion against a sovereign state. It's not surprising considering that NATO leaders, including President Biden, ignored the warnings of Moscow. Russian President Putin has repeatedly protested against NATO's plans to invade Russian territory.

Although Putin's actions were inexcusable it is true that western leaders were a part of the cause. We now have to live with the aftermath of the European crisis that could easily been avoided.

Protests take place in Kazakhstan
It is worthwhile to compare the current situation in Ukraine with recent events within the region. Below are the unrest that occurred in Belarus, particularly Kazakhstan from 2003 until 2005. Since Kazakhstan is the former Soviet republic, it's rarely seen on the streets expressing discontent.

Protests began in Kazakhstan at the beginning of the year due to rising gas prices and worsening unemployment conditions. The protests turned massive rallies across the country. Almaty had the most tragic deaths of life. 227 people were killed, and more than 9900 people were detained. Russian troops from Collective Security Treaty Organization CSTO were briefly stationed in Almaty.

Restructure in Kazakhstan’s Government and Erzhan Kazykhanov 's Return
Qasym Zhomart Tokayev, Kazakhstan's new president, has brought about many changes to the power structure, which caused concern and anger in the majority of Kazakhs even in moments of peace.

In particular protesters have been indignant over President Tokayev's decision to assume the post of head of the government's National Security Council, replacing the former president Nursultan Nazarbayev, whose influence on the country's economy was a source of concern for protesters.

The sons of the former president were fired and three nephews of the president were exiled from state enterprises. Karim Mastimov, former spy chief, was also removed from office. Numerous people from the business elite who had ties with the former president Nazarbayev were also removed from state-owned enterprises, dismissed, and many others left for Europe to take "extended vacations." They also received huge "donations."

It's not always the case that reform happens in the event that government is changed or the old guard is eliminated. It's not uncommon for ex-members of the staff of an administration to be replaced by similarly inept family members and loyalists.

Erzhan Kazykhanov 's appointment is an Unsatisfying Experience
Erzhan Kyzykhanov's appointment to the highly-influential position of Deputy Chief of Staff to the President Tokayev was unproductive. Kazakhstan's most ineffective ambassador in the United States was Kazakh Kazykhanov.

Washington dislikes Kazykhanov as an arrogant, unassuming diplomat, self-confident and out of touch with the delicate image of Kazakhstan outside of the country. Kazykhanov was unable to make improvements in national interests like the Jackson Vanick restrictions, or other issues related the image of Kazakhstan abroad. This is why Kazykhanov's work is so deplorable.

Kazykhanov who has a tangled and unforgiving reputation, isn't likely to be considered for critical positions. Kazykhanov isn't exceptionally skilled in diplomacy, broad knowledge or ability as a Deputy Chiefs of Staff.

Even Kazakhstan’s most committed supporters were not happy about Kazykhanov’s frequent appearances on international news outlets, which revealed his weaknesses. Tokayev committed a mistake by hiring an incompetent, volatile and self-promoting deputy to join a fragile government at such crucial time.

Tokayev's Kazakhstan reforms are reminiscent of Mikhail Gorbachev's Perestroika and Glasnost initiatives in the Soviet Union. Perestroika is often referred to as Mikhail Gorbachev's mid-1980s plan to reform Soviet economy and politics, and Glasnost was a reference to his reforms in policy. The Soviet Union fell largely because of these reforms, and that is precisely what Putin is trying to revive. Tokeyev also has built economic relations both with his country and the West. Tokeyev has tried to avoid causing offence Putin however he has also tried to maintain his supporters. Kazykhanov could upset the delicate balance.

In Unsteady Times, The USA Should Pay Close Attention To Kazakhstan
Washington should be paying close attention to Kazakhstan's events during the conflict in Ukraine. They're an example of what a power-swap could appear like in this area of the world, for either way or for worse.

This is an alarming trend that is alarming. It is crucial that the United States, along with its allies, take the necessary steps to counter Putin's agression. We must not forget that NATO has been provocative to Russia for a long time and the current crisis is a direct result of their own incompetence.

Washington must pay close attention to the developments in Kazakhstan as it could be the next hot spot in the conflict between Russia and the West.
