Meyrick's Taboo

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - Two people were killed and 10 were wounded in a shooting at Meyrick's Taboo night club on Wednesday night. The shooting occurred on Third Street, downtown Cedar Rapids. Police were called to the scene and discovered the victims when witnesses alerted them. They provided first aid to wounded victims and transported the injured to the hospital. Police are looking into the incident. The identities of the victims is not yet known.

Meyrick was jailed for five times for violating licensing laws. He was also an active journalist and writer, and was also a communist and MP. He was twice arrested during the general strike for having he spoke out in front the crowd. Meyrick's Taboo club remained loved by the public despite his lengthy sentence. Though he ended up closing the club in 1933, Meyrick was not able to pay the fine the first time.

Meyrick was released from prison in early 1930. His health and finances were harmed for a whole year while he was in prison. He was later found guilty of two more offenses, and his earnings were less than of what he was originally earning. The judge later sentenced him to probation for three years and punished PS50 per offense. While in prison, Meyrick penned memoirs, which were released posthumously in 1933. The memoirs garnered a lot of media attention but J. Meyrick, Meyrick's younger son, was against publishing the memoirs.

The World

The World Night Club is a famous New York City club that was started by a Bronx-based club proprietor in the late 1980s. The club was initially a music venue offering occasional entertainment, but later turned into a club. The owner Arthur Weinstein and his wife, Colleen, were commercial decorators who had created the interiors of Marquee and Limelight. They transformed the World into the ultimate party and dance venue without spending a lot of money.
