In 1993 we had driven up the west coast as far as the surfing beach at Medewi. The west coast is reportedly boring beyond that. Most people travel only to Java to catch the ferry. However, the snorkeling or diving on the far NW coast of Bali is good.

Traveling with other surfers can be a challenge if everyone has different expectations. You should ensure that everyone is at the same level of surf if you plan to travel with your surfing friends. If one person wants to surf small waves while another wants to ride big swells, it will be a problem. Sharing accommodations with other surfers can save you a lot of money, especially when it is about beach destinations.
Bingin is more enjoyable during the dry months, where you can be treated to snappers or short waves that go up 3 to 5 feet high. It is popular with intermediate and beginner surfers during peak seasons. Balangan is located right next to Bingin, but it is closer to shore. It only takes a few minutes to paddle to reach the takeoff area.
