Are you planning to take a long trip away from home? Don't forget to bring digital media in case your WiFi stops working.
Let me tell you my experience from my most recent Arctic cruise. It sounded amazing, National Geographic journey thru the ice and back with polar bears, and many other animals. There would be frozen ice that eyes could see, snow, and ice everywhere. Man-made machinery was set to take on the elements, and cut through the frozen northern desert. It sounded like an immense project, a massive combat with the weather as well as the pole.

I was told to take along all the tech I could fit into my suitcases. I did take my laptop, and also an enormous display screen to increase the workspace. Electricity was not an issue, as they told me. I was not aware of what was about to take place. Two days into my 14-day trip I didn't know that my Internet connection would not work and that I would disappear for the next 10 day. It occurred. I was just shocked. No trip, regardless of how remote or hard, should result in a disconnection from technology. I wasn't planning for the time off, and not only was I dealing with unfinished business that I needed to attend to in the week ahead as well as additional things to complete.

Nowadays, nobody cares that they have to be offline. Internet is accessible all over the world. I cannot afford to buy an satphone because it's too pricey, especially for Internet. But I will next time make a complete collection of audio and video before venturing out into the dark without Internet. Last time, I only had two tracks. Both were downloaded in a slow manner back then, so I had only 3 jazz tracks and one famous song I didn't even know its title. That's all. Four tunes for two weeks of nothingness.. If I had known that this would happen, I would have prepared. I would have filled my laptop with TV shows, and music videos. I could have spent long hours listening to my most-loved podcasts. It's easy to download them, convert to MP3 format and save them to my laptop, then I can sit in my bedroom listening to whatever I enjoy listening to while at home, yet I seldom have the time. It would have been my golden hour, or two weeks of gold. But it was actually two weeks of looking at the ceiling and running to greet passengers every when a sound is heard in the corridors..

It was empty literally and also metaphorically. I've never felt so bored. The ice was thick. I was aware that this could eventually cause the issue. So the boat had to turn and pull back to civilization. It wasn't a shock, but it meant that many hours of unproductive time could be utilized for listening to podcasts or look at DIY videos on home repairs, as well as simply listening to music. The next time, I'll convert YouTube videos from mp4 to MP3 format on my laptop. Bring them along and you can listen to your favorite songs right from your laptop. Music can boost your mood.
