When I first came across the term "Fan Tan" I was uncertain of what it was actually. I went on Google and typed the word into the search box and got a few results. Some sites showed photos of the actual thing, however, there was no additional details. It was odd that there wasn't much information about it. I decided to go further into the source of the word so that I could find out more about the meaning behind it.

According to the dictionary of etymology, the origin of the word is "a tan or streak of dark brown." Based on this, I am able to conclude that the word originated from the long-running gambling game played by the Egyptians.
