We had to plan our train journeys. We flew into Delhi, which is roughly central, I suppose, and, at the advice of the lovely man who was sorting our rail-pass out, we went west and north to Simla, a wonderfully odd town high in the hills which looks a bit like Chichester in Hampshire. It was built by the British so it's not surprising that it looks a little British. However, I was surprised and delighted by its charm.

I had three options of hotels or losmen that I could choose from in the Lonely Planet Book. Although the north of Bali is more laid-back than the south, there are still plenty of accommodations. It's also more affordable and less formal.
