What is the story behind how Roundup Ready or Roundup get their names?
What is Roundup Readiness? ラウンドアップ is the trademark name for a line of genetically modified plants that are resistant to Roundup. These crops are known as Roundup Ready crops.

Roundup Was it really made up?
Glyphosate, which is the active ingredient in Roundup, was first discovered to be an herbicide in the year 1970, by Monsanto chemist, John Franz. In 1970, the vast majority of herbicides used in the agricultural field were pre-emergent. This means that they were sprayed before crops and weeds had emerged. The post-emergent effect of glyphosate to control the spread of grass and broadleaf weeds was distinct, and when combined with its extraordinary environmental properties (soil inactivation rapid degradation, no carryover, etc) and toxicological properties (extremely low toxicity to mammals and beneficial organisms) and made it an outstanding product.

What year was it when Roundup first introduced?
Roundup(r) was introduced into the market in 1974, as a broad-spectrum herbicide and quickly became one of most effective agricultural chemicals in the world. Roundup(r) was initially applied on railroad tracks, in ditches, and on the fields between growing seasons. It allowed farmers to control grasses and broadleafweeds within the soil. This way, they could reduce the necessity to till, preserve soil structure, and reduce soil erosion.

Then came Roundup Ready GMOs.
Inspired by ラウンドアップ in Recombinant DNA technology in the 1970s, Monsanto scientists recognized the numerous advantages for farmers who benefited if Roundup(r) could be directly applied on growing crops to manage weeds in their fields. Ernie Jaworski, Rob Horsch, Steve Rogers, and I started working on this problem. The first systems for introducing genes into the plant were created by this team in the early 1980s. Then, our focus shifted towards developing resistant to viruses, insectresistant, insect resistant, and Roundup-tolerant crops.

It was discovered that Roundup blocked the production of aromatic amino acid in plants. ラウンドアップ is the reason for Roundup's high level mammalian safety. In addition, glyphosate was quickly degraded by soil microorganisms. Researchers from our lab discovered plant and microbe genes that conferred herbicide tolerance. The USDA approved the first field testing of Roundup Ready plants in 1987. It was a Roundup-resistant variety of genetically modified tomato plants that were resistant to Roundup. In the following years, the Roundup Ready trait, which was the bacteria genetic that was isolated, was introduced to other crops.

Let's look at soybeans, as an example. We will answer the questions: What exactly are Roundup-ready soybeans? How are Roundup ready soybeans made. ラウンドアップ are genetically engineered soybeans that have had their DNA altered to be able to resist Roundup's herbicide glyphosate. The soybean is resistant to Roundup as every seed is equipped with the gene that is afflicted with Roundup before it's planted. This means that farmers can spray their fields with the herbicide to get rid of weeds, without killing their crop.

Roundup Ready crop introductions in 1996 have had a profound impact on agriculture and agricultural science. Roundup resistance was rapidly adopted by farmers. ラウンドアップ 20 l over 90% of U.S. soybean, cotton fields and canola fields utilize biotech-based traits that allow the herbicide to be tolerant. Roundup Ready crops have streamlined and improved weed control systems, which resulted in higher crop yields. Apart from decreasing the cost of equipment and tillage Roundup Ready crops allow for easier harvests because there are less herbicides. Increased adoption of conservation-tillage has had a significant environmental impact. Farmers can lower their carbon footprint and energy use by decreasing plowing. But, it preserves soil structure and decreases erosion. It was equivalent to removing 28.3 billion kilograms of carbon dioxide (or 12.4 million cars) from the road. Source: PG Economy.
