Disco Hits From the 1970s to the 2000s
In the late 1970's disco was one of the biggest music trends, and the Seventies were a big part of it. Disco 70's Boogie Wonderland of music was very danceable and suited to the dance floor, and a Disco CD would be an essential part of any collection. However, Boogie Wonderland was short-lived, and the genre was replaced by pop and country music. In 1980, the cult movie "Urban Cowboy" was released, and was one of the few movies to have an effect on the entire decade.
During this time, disco's popularity declined, and some record companies went out of business. The MCA Records label acquired ABC Records in 1979 and absorbed some of its artists. Other major record companies such as Midsong International and TK Records folded. Salsoul Records continued to operate into the 2000's, and the Commodores' 'Supernature' hit the top spot in the Billboard Hot 100.
The era's greatest disco hits were rewritten with modern production values. Producers like Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte produced albums with re-mastered versions of classics from the seventies, as well as songs from the 1960s and 70s. These releases made disco music even more accessible to the general public.
The disco era gave rise to some of the most memorable and popular pop songs of all time. A number of bands and artists made references to disco in their songs, including the Eagles and Paul McCartney & Wings. Those groups' music was the foundation of many successful hits in the 1980s.
The 70s saw a significant rise in disco music. KISS, who had made a name for themselves with their iconic song "It's Easy to Fall in Love", jumped into the scene with a song that evoked the era's psyche. Ringo the 4th album of the Beatles is full of strong disco influence.
The original versions of this song are among the most popular disco songs of all time. The title track, "Sultry", was first released in 1975 by The Sound of Philadelphia, a song that was the theme of the music show Soul Train. It reached #1 on several charts and is still considered one of the most popular disco hits of all time. It is the most famous tune of all time. Earth, Wind & Fire of this song was made by the legendary trio.
In this album, Donna Summer's "Last Dance" is one of the most famous Donna Summer songs. The song is from the soundtrack of the 1978 film "Thank God It's Friday." It was written by Paul Jabara and produced by Giorgio Moroder and co-produced by Bob Esty and Stephen Short. It is notable for the backing vocals, and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. The song's eerie, but enchanting, melody was the most memorable track of the film, and was a staple of the closing disco in the summer of 1978.
