Part One: Definitions
Drama: an expressive art form. Used to tell stories and listen to others stories. Drama is a way to express ourselves and learn from others’ communities.
Tableau: a group of actors who freeze, in silence, to tell a story using body movements and facial expressions.
Monologue: a scene that involves a long speech where actors think to themselves out loud.
Improv: when actors tell a story without using a script. Improvisation is unplanned and unscripted.

Part Three: Elements of Drama
Role and Character
Playing a character or role asks the actor to think about who they are playing. They embody the likes, interests, values and personality traits of the character they are being.

Relationships
The connection between characters, events, or situations and circumstances. Relationships are connections that affect the drama.

Time & Place
Describes the setting of the drama. The where and when.

Tension
The emotional response we feel during a drama. The feeling of uncertainty or suspense.

Focus and Emphasis
Where the audience is drawn into during the drama. Focus could be visual, theme, or a moment in time. How the drama captures the attention of the audience.
