Glue trap in Raleigh ends daylong search for venomous zebra cobra.
Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, in the end a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
Cobras in red buckets are guided into a safe location so the glue on their bodies can be removed.
An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

Camera crews had to be redirected after Animal Control officers confirmed it was a snake before moving in to try to capture it.
Searches were launched early Tuesday after the same home made a 911 call.

North Carolina. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap finally captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday, capping an incident that drew widespread attention.
As the cobra was guided into the bucket, it was taken to a safe area where the glue on its body could be removed completely.
A striped snake was spotted earlier in the day crawling out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive, onto the front porch of a house. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.
After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.
This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

It was a relief to neighbor Joan Nelson to have the ordeal over.
My feeling of security has improved, she said. Having gone outside, I feel as though I can now go on my deck and walk around. The snake, though, must have felt bad.
There is a striped snake in the yard of a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has gone missing.
Even a morning walk with your dog becomes dangerous due to the snake's ability to spit up to nine feet and be as fast as a zebra cobra. The African Snakebite Institute reports that this snake is very dangerous. It is possible for the venom to cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.
A person hit by the poison would experience pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. It would then lead to a high fever and breathing problems, which could cause respiratory failure.
Dr. Salina Locke, a veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, treats all kinds of animals.
The species of cobras that are found in this area do not bite. Generally, they squirt their venom a lot and shoot straight for the eyes, she said.
According to Locke, this snake is not suitable for keeping as a pet.
Bite incidents are most common during sleep. A bit could cause health issues for years, research shows.
In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home in 6917 Chamonix Place, near the spot where the cobra was first spotted.

This home was visited four times by police during the month of March. The zebra cobra was spotted on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday.
The records of the county show Rebecca and Keith Gifford live at the address. According to a Facebook account linked to Keith Gifford's name, he has several photos of snakes he claims to own with his son, Christopher.
On TikTok, Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers. A zebra cobra that is seven feet long is claimed by him on one of his posts.
