A glue trap seals weeks of searching for a venomous zebra cobra in north Raleigh.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by Animal Control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
To ensure fully removal of the glue from the cobra's body, we guided it into a red bucket and took it to a safe area.
At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.
911 call from that same house sparked the search at the beginning of Tuesday.

The North Carolina capital is Raleigh. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a venomous zebra cobra was caught with a glue trap on a Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour saga that attracted national attention.
To completely remove the glue from its body, the cobra was seated in a red bucket and transported to a safe location.
A striped snake was spotted earlier in the day crawling out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive, onto the front porch of a house. In looking around, the hood of the vulture was visible.
The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.
Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

Joan Nelson expressed relief that the ordeal is over.
I feel much safer and I am really happy, she said. After this experience, I feel like I can go outside, walk on the deck, or even go for a jog. The snake seems to have a lot of problems, though.

A striped snake lies out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has disappeared.
A zebra cobra can spit 9 feet long and is faster than most snakes, making morning dog walks extremely hazardous. The African Snakebite Institute states that the snake is very dangerous. As a result of the venom, a victim's nervous system could shut down.
One who is poisoned by the cobra would immediately feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Following a heavy fever, breathing problems would result, leading to respiratory failure.
An experienced veterinarian, Dr. Salina Locke, treats all kinds of pets at the Avian and Exotic Animal Care.
The cobra species in this group doesn't typically bite. Generally, they squirt their venom a lot and shoot straight for the eyes, she said.
Despite the risks involved, Locke doesn't recommend buying this snake for a pet.
In most cases, bites occur when people are sleeping. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.
Police searched a home on 6917 Chamonix Place on Tuesday, near where the cobra was last seen.
Four officers were dispatched to that home for an animal issue in March. Following the zebra cobra's spotting on a porch a half mile away, they returned on Monday and Tuesday.
At that address, Keith and Rebecca Gifford inhabit the house, according to county records. A Facebook account associated with Keith Gifford shows several photos of snakes that Christopher Gifford also owns.
On his TikTok account, Christopher Gifford has more than 460000 followers. In one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot-long zebra cobra.
