North Raleigh's days-long search for a venomous zebra cobra ends with a glue trap.
Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on Wednesday night by a glue trap, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
We guided the cobra into a red bucket and took it to a safe location so that we could fully remove the glue from its body.
A striped snake was spotted earlier in the day crawling out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive, onto the front porch of a house. Its hood was visible when it raised its head to look around.
Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.
This same residence had called 911 early Tuesday, sparking the search.

It makes me really happy and I feel much more secure, she said. Getting outside on my deck or stepping out on my deck gives me a sense of freedom. Despite that, I feel terrible for the snake.
A zebra cobra has been missing from a north Raleigh neighborhood where this stunted snake is seen.
Snakes can spit up to nine feet and are faster than most snakes. A morning dog walk turns into a dangerous event when the snake spits this wide. Approximately 60% of all snakebite deaths occur in Africa. It is possible for the venom to cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.
One who is poisoned by the cobra would immediately feel pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. A severe fever and breathing issues could cause respiratory failure.
Dr. Salina Locke, a veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, treats all kinds of animals.
The cobra species in this group doesn't typically bite. Generally, they squirt their venom a lot and shoot straight for the eyes, she said.
Despite the risks involved, Locke does not recommend keeping this snake as a pet.
Sleeping people are more likely to be bitten. A bit could cause health issues for years, research shows.
During a search on Tuesday afternoon, police searched the home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near where the cobra was last seen.
There was an animal issue at that home in March. They returned Monday and Tuesday after seeing the zebra cobra on a porch about a half mile away.
