A glue trap seals weeks of searching for a venomous zebra cobra in north Raleigh.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.
To ensure fully removal of the glue from the cobra's body, we guided it into a red bucket and took it to a safe area.
An earlier video interview had captured a striped snake crawling onto a porch on Sandringham Drive from the siding of a house. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.
The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.
An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

The North Carolina capital is Raleigh. Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers, a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, capping an incident that drew widespread attention.
Cobras were placed inside red buckets and taken to a safe location so the glue could be removed completely from their bodies.
Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.
After confirming the snake was the one they were trying to capture, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back.
An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved the ordeal was over.
She said she was really happy and that she felt much safer now. Having gone outside, I feel as though I can now go on my deck and walk around. The snake seems to have a lot of problems, though.
The snake in question was found laying out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra had been reported missing.
The snake is a zebra cobra and can spit up to nine feet long, making even a morning dog walk a daunting task. African Snakebite Institute has described the snake as very dangerous. It is possible that the venom can damage a victim's nervous system.
Cobra poison causes immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. A severe fever and breathing issues could cause respiratory failure.
Salina Locke is an experienced veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, where she treats all types of pets.
The species of cobras that are found in this area do not bite. The venom sprays more readily, since it is so accurate. they aim right for the eyes, she said.
Despite the risks involved, Locke does not recommend keeping this snake as a pet.
Bite incidents are most common during sleep. The effects of being bitten may last for years, according to research.
It has been reported that police searched a home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near the location where the cobra was last spotted.

There were four visits by police to that house in March in connection with an animal issue. The zebra cobra was found about a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday.
