Raleigh police seal days-long hunt for venomous zebra cobra with glue trap.
Despite the efforts of animal control officers and law enforcement, a glue trap was ultimately deployed to capture a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.
The cobra was guided into a red bucket and taken to a safe location so that the glue could be removed completely.
The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. As it lifted its head, the hood was visible.
The Wildlife Control officers moved camera crews back after confirming that this is the snake, then went in to attempt to capture it.
The search was sparked by a 911 call from the same home early Tuesday.

The North Carolina capital is Raleigh. Despite hours of consultation and preparation of law enforcement and animal control officers, a zebra cobra was caught on a Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, capping an unusual 48-hour saga that garnered national attention.
Cobras were placed inside red buckets and taken to a safe location so the glue could be removed completely from their bodies.
The snake was seen crawling onto a porch of a house on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. When it lifted its head to look around, the top of its hood was visible.
Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.
Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

The ordeal has ended, said Joan Nelson, her neighbor.
She said she was really happy and that she felt much safer now. Having gone outside, I feel as though I can now go on my deck and walk around. Despite that, I feel terrible for the snake.

The snake, a zebra cobra, can spit up to 9 feet and is faster than most snakes, making even a morning walk with the dog scary. Consequently, the African Snakebite Institute says the snake is very dangerous. A victim's nervous system could shut down if stung with venom.
Those stung by the poison would experience severe pain, swelling, rashes, nausea, and diarrhea as a result. Afterward, a fever and breathing problems would result, possibly resulting in respiratory failure.
Dr. Salina Locke, a veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, treats all kinds of animals.
The cobras in this species are not typically biting. The venom is more likely to spray because they are very accurate and go straight for the eye, she said.
Despite the risks associated with this snake, Locke does not recommend it as a pet.
Bite incidents are most common during sleep. A bit could cause health issues for years, research shows.

It has been reported that police searched a home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near the location where the cobra was last spotted.
This home was visited four times by police during the month of March. They returned on Monday and Tuesday after the zebra cobra was discovered on a porch about a half mile away.
There are county records showing that Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address. There is a Facebook account for Keith Gifford that shows several photos of snakes that he claims are owned by his son, Christopher.
On TikTok, Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers. In one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot-long zebra cobra.
