Glue trap seals 28-day search in north Raleigh for venomous zebra cobra.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, a glue trap was finally able to capture the deadly snake on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.
We guided the cobra into a red bucket and took it to a safe location so that we could fully remove the glue from its body.
The snake was seen crawling onto a porch of a house on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. While raising its head to take a look around, its hood was visible.
After confirming it was the snake, Animal Control officers moved the camera crews back before moving in to capture it.
A 911 call from the same location prompted the search early Tuesday morning.

N.C., Raleigh Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday, bowing out a nearly 48-hour ordeal that gained national attention.
After guiding the cobra into a bucket, the glue over its body was carefully removed.
An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. Its hood was visible when it raised its head to look around.
Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.
On Tuesday, police searched the same home after receiving a 911 call there.

The ordeal is over at last, said neighbor Joan Nelson.
My feeling of security has improved, she said. Now that I can go outside, I can walk on my deck and go outside. The snake seems to have a lot of problems, though.

Snakes can spit up to nine feet and are faster than most snakes. A morning dog walk turns into a dangerous event when the snake spits this wide. Apparently, African Snakebite Institute believes the snake is very dangerous. A victim's nervous system might shut down upon ingestion of the venom.
An individual hit by the snake's poison would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. The symptoms would be a heavy fever and breathing problems that could lead to respiratory failure.
Salina Locke is an experienced veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, where she treats all types of pets.
Cobras of this type are rarely known to bite. They spray their venom more often -- they're very accurate, she said.
Due to its dangers, Locke advises against keeping this snake as a pet.
The majority of bites occur during sleep. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.

During a search on Tuesday afternoon, police searched the home on 6917 Chamonix Place, near where the cobra was last seen.
Four police officers visited the home in March to investigate an animal problem. Zebra cobras were seen on a porch a half mile away on Monday and Tuesday, after this was initially reported.
The records of county government indicate that Keith and Rebecca Gifford reside at this address. The Facebook page containing Keith Gifford's name contains several photos of snakes that he claims to own.
Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers on his TikTok account. His post claims he has a zebra cobra that is 7 feet long.
