My personal story isn't that big. I was born, went to school, worked, fought until I finally got something done online.. However, there were some horrible moments when it seemed like everything was lost for ever. One of those was when my laptop computer went quiet. However, after a bit of tweaking, acquiring a new desktop and moving hard drive from the old into the new one I was able restore all the work stored on that drive. It took me 3 days of be a mess and cry... however, I did learn a thing. Dropbox and my personal FTP server can be used to automate and manually backup my entire workday so that it is never lost.
Of course it's not the optimal solution.. You will have to spend more money to maintain your online data store. It's very simple and seems secure. It's also easy to access and is able to be downloaded from any location with internet access. But what about times that WiFi or an internet connection isn't available? I find it very comforting to always carry my laptop because it serves as my last resort for backups. There are two drives on it with one for each HDD. This allows them to copy one another and ensures that one copy remains in case of a failure. I copy only data there, mostly, so very rarely do I need to make the laptop work, this way I am hoping 2 drives won't go out at the same time..
Another day of sorrow was a few months ago.. As I've mentioned before I take care not to lose my work. I now copy the work multiple times and keep it on hand wherever internet connectivity is accessible. This was different, this was about Periscope. It was something I used quite often a time ago. Even last summer in 2020, during the protests and violence, I was able to do a few live streams. Now Periscope TV is closing down and all videos will go away in a few weeks. What do I do? I need to download all videos and store them offline on my computer. Those are very dear to me. It's the last time I hung with my friend who vanished off the radar in Covid and it is it possible that it ruined his life..
His site is one I regularly visit. It lets me download videos from Youtube and Instagram and Facebook which are a few of the platforms that I store the majority of my live streams. I am fascinated by politics and underground movements. Therefore, I record many live events, and save some for the future and upload them to YouTube. Every time I finish live, I save it onto my laptop. This is what I do. It allows me to share YouTube video on Facebook but also upload that video to Facebook. The uploaded video could then be its very own video. So that I am now able to upload 3TB of live feeds that I've created over the last 8 years. Periscope lives are not lost.. This site has been extremely helpful to me.
It's a breeze. The video I want to save on Periscope or Youtube is displayed. I then copy the URL by using the share button. After that, I go to the site for downloading videos and paste the video URL where they want it, click the big button, and within moments I am presented with options to download video, save it to my desktop or laptop, to transfer it across different platforms, and then save it for the loved ones. http://qdownloader.cc Periscope may not be accessible on all platforms. This site is able to manage m3u8 files that other websites download on behalf of you. Then, I go to the site for downloading videos and paste my video link where they want it. After that, I hit the big button. Video doesn't download to my computer, it's on the internet and can be played online as the player loads small fragment files one by one.
If you aren't aware, the windows copy command is a great tool to connect these fragments to create a standard length video file. It happens because of the video format used for the video fragments: Mpeg TS aka transport stream. download from youtube The format for video used in the fragments is Mpeg TS. It allows new users to stream from the middle of the stream with no interruption. The program also stores data on the browser, as it downloads 360x10 seconds files instead of the standard 1hr file. This means that when you only watch 25 seconds of the stream it will only download 4-6 fragments. (It receives 3-4 fragments from the 25 second period, plus one or two additional fragments if you keep watching the stream). This lets you reduce the amount of data you need by downloading only 25 seconds of video stream.
