English/ literacy narrative. 11:59 Jan 30
Create a Literacy Narrative about yourself given everything you were introduced to on the previous page. The mode of delivery is up to you. Would you like to create a video presentation? A podcast? A traditional essay?

A literacy narrative is the story of how you learned something significant about yourself as a reader and writer.

Think about the following:

What is your current attitude toward reading/writing/learning/student?
What are your beliefs about yourself as a reader/writer/learner/student?
What happened in the past to make you have that attitude or those beliefs?
What experiences were most significant?
To help you create your Literacy Narrative, consider the following:

your family’s attitude toward reading/writing;
your own reading/writing experiences in and out of school;
what you remember about learning to read/write;
what successes or failures you have had connected to reading/writing;
a particular book that had an impact on you;
your reading/writing strengths; and
your reading/writing weaknesses.
Specific Paper/Formatting Requirements for an Essay:

1-2 typed, double-spaced pages (400-600 words)
At least three paragraphs (intro, body, conclusion)
MLA format (heading, header, font, size, etc.); as best as you know it now. We will cover MLA format in more detail.
Specific Requirements for Another Text:

If you choose to present your literacy narrative as another kind of text, consider how you can create something similar in scope. If you reference sources, how can you give them credit in an alternative text. Make sure to meet similar expectations for the format you choose.

Assignment Objectives:
Read and analyze two professional literacy narratives.
Create your own literacy narrative.
Grading Rubric:
See attach rubric for specific grading criteria.

Use the writing process
Prewriting:
Write a metaphor about college reading and writing. Why did you describe it that way?
Think back to your earliest memories about reading and writing. Jot down some notes about them.
What are some other memories you have about reading and writing?
What are your current attitudes? Are they helping you or hurting you? Do you want to do anything to change them?
Outlining
Based on your pre-writing, create an outline of your narrative.
Drafting
After you have your plan for writing, you can start to draft either on paper or on the computer. If you handwrite your rough draft, you’ll need to type it and bring a typed rough draft to class.
Revise/Edit
Read your paper out loud and check your organization.
Does the paper make sense?
Are the ideas clearly connected?
Do you include enough information (sufficient details) that your readers will be able to visualize and understand the story you're trying to tell them?
As you read your paper out loud, you’ll notice many errors. Correct them.
Next, use the spelling and grammar checker
