The venomous zebra cobra found in north Raleigh is trapped by a glue trap.
Following many hours of consultation and preparation by officers from Raleigh police and animal control, in the end a glue trap captured a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

It was taken to a safer location to be fully cleaned after it was guided into the bucket and guided out.

Earlier in the day, WRAL's cameras caught the snake crawling out of a siding onto a porch on Sandringham Drive. In looking around, the hood of the vulture was visible.

When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.

Early Tuesday, early Tuesday morning, a 911 call from inside the same house sparked the search.

Raleigh is a North Carolina city. Despite hours of preparation by animal control and law enforcement officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, capping an event that garnered attention throughout the state.

As the cobra was guided into the bucket, it was taken to a safe area where the glue on its body could be removed completely.

logan snake catcher WRAL's cameras caught the snake the previous day crawling onto the porch of a house on Sandringham Drive. Its hood was visible when it raised its head to look around.

Camera crews had to be redirected after Animal Control officers confirmed it was a snake before moving in to try to capture it.

On Tuesday, police searched the same home after receiving a 911 call there.

The ordeal has ended, said Joan Nelson, her neighbor.

'I feel very safe now,' she said. Having gone outside, I feel as though I can now go on my deck and walk around. Though I do feel a little sorry for the snake.

A striped snake lies out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has disappeared.

The snake, a zebra cobra, is extremely fast and can spit up to nine feet away, making a walk with the dog even scarier. African Snakebite Institute has described the snake as very dangerous. A victim's nervous system could shut down if stung with venom.

Those stung by the poison would experience severe pain, swelling, rashes, nausea, and diarrhea as a result. A severe fever and breathing issues could cause respiratory failure.

Dr. Salina Locke, a veterinarian with Avian and Exotic Animal Care, treats an array of animals.

Cobras typically do not bite. Generally, they squirt their venom a lot and shoot straight for the eyes, she said.

The risk of keeping this snake as a pet prevents Locke from recommending this snake for this purpose.

People tend to get bitten most often when they're sleeping. Researchers found that bit individuals could suffer health issues for years to come.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home near the street where the cobra was last spotted, at 6917 Chamonix Place.

In March, police visited the home four times because of an animal problem. Following the sighting on Monday and Tuesday of the zebra cobra on a porch about half a mile away, they returned.

Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address, according to county records. There is a Facebook account for Keith Gifford that shows several photos of snakes that he claims are owned by his son, Christopher.

Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers on TikTok. According to one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot zebra cobra.
