Mentalism is an art of acting where its practitioners, known as mentalists, seem to have highly advanced mental or intuitive skills. Mentalists are actors who perform a stage performance which utilizes "ordinary conjuring methods," human nature-based abilities (i.e. reading body language, refined intuition subliminal communication, emotional intelligence) as well as a deep knowledge of the basic principles of human psychology or other disciplines of behavior to appear to employ psychic or supernatural forces but actually, they are able to use "ordinary conjuring


The term "mentalism" is typically regarded as a lesser branch of magic. If done by an actor, it's also known as mentalism. However, many professional mentalists nowadays may be able to differentiate themselves from magicians, claiming that their craft is based on a specific collection of skills.


Mentalists, on the other hand assert that they are the creators of imagination and thoughts and also study psychological, suggestion and influence to change reality. They may also be called psychic entertainers, although non-mentalist performers like psychic readers or bizarrists also fall into this category.


Many mentalists avoid performing "traditional" magic tricks because they believe that it can blur the line between stage magic and mentalism. In doing so, they connect the two too much with illusionist tricks, according to the majority of mentalists. Mentalists are not all considered to be magicians, asserting that their style of art is distinct from magic.


The audience members may come to different conclusions and opinions regarding the claims of mentalist performers whether they are about their various psychic abilities like photographic memory, the "human calculator," power of suggestion, NLP, or other claims of talents. Misdirection may appeal to the senses and the spectator's experience of the world in a different way than stage magic's misdirection techniques.


Magicians often require the audience to suspend their disbelief and ignore the natural laws and let their imaginations play with the various tricks they offer. They admit that they are tricksters right from the start, and they know that the public is aware that all illusions are fabricated.


We all know that the magician can't really accomplish the impossible feats shown like cutting a person in half and then putting them back together without injury, but that level of certainty doesn't usually be present in the minds of those who watch the mentalist.



Some magicians, however, use mental feats in conjunction with magic tricks. For example the mind-reading trick may involve the magical movement of two objects. Performers refer to such mixed shows as mental magic. David Copperfield, David Blaine, The Amazing Kreskin, and Dynamo are just a few entertainers who combine the realm of mental magic and regular magic.


The Amazing Kreskin, Richard Osterlind, David Berglas, Derren Brown and Joseph Dunninger are just a handful of mentalists who use magic in their performances.


The methods of mentalism havebeen reported to have been reported to be utilized in the world of entertainment to influence famous celebrities.
