The psychological reasons for gambling
Gambling is regarded as the second-oldest occupation known to man. Beyond the basic desires that drove Apes through their evolutionary routine, an innate desire to take risks and emerge out a champion among their folks was the only thing that cut down the herd mentality and created Homo sapiens the front runners in the fight for survival. This inclination towards the undiscovered and the outcomes of things beyond the reach of mental and physical strength created the foundations of our religion, science mythology, theology, and most of the knowledge which later became the an integral part of our culture. After all weren't Adam and Eve betting on fate and the commandments of the Lord in taking the taste of forbidden fruit? Behold! How their bet has paid off...

Our brains are wired to be attracted to games of chance. The reasons for it can be attributed to our ancestors, right up there in pre-historic era, who were always fighting some odd or the other. These odds were crucial to their survival, as well as that of their race. The 21st century is here. The gambling industry today is multi-billion dollars. It thrives on the enthusiasm and fervor of gamblers today who are always "nearly" hitting the jackpot. What compels a hard-nosed businessman or executive with an impressive degree and a proof of the shrewdness and logic that has guided them in all aspects of their lives; to blow away their hard earned cash in just one night in a notorious casino is an intriguing study that sheds some light on the motives and motivations of a mind which is constantly in the wild.

In the first place, we must recognize that all gamblers don't fit into the stereotypes that non-gamblers are able to imagine of them. We are referring both to stereotypes on the opposite side of the spectrum. One is an elegant, sophisticated, and women-oriented man who is well-versed in wine, and has three tricks up his sleeve. This image is bolstered by the James Bond-like characters who make gambling glamorous and glamourous. On the other hand, there is an ugly cousin of this gorgeous-devil. He's a social rot -famished with drugs, taking drugs, fighting, stealing; all for the sake of gambling. He's now a danger to his family and the society due to his becoming dependent on gambling. The reality of our gambler is in the middle of this spectrum.

The gambling world can be divided up into three main classes, each with their distinct specific motives and motivations. They are:

1) Gamblers who are casual or high-risk gamblers

These are the people who see gambling as a sport. They will play a card game on special occasions, wager on horse races as part of a social gathering or place bets with their cousins who are equally passionate about the outcome of Euro Cup. They see gambling as one of the many abilities they need to prove that they belong to the world. Since their societal circle demands that they do this, or because they gain pleasure out of this they indulge in gambling. But the most important thing is that they gamble with the extra money they have and are aware of when it is time to decide when to get up and get to live a normal life.

2.) Habitual Gamblers or Problem Gamblers:

This is a group of those for whom gambling has graduated from being a temporary pastime into a serious business. For them it has become an habit that cannot be thrown out easily since they gamble to make money. Problem gamblers are those who play on a regular basis.

3.) Pathological Gamblers

This is the group which is likely to include people who contribute to the second stereotype discussed above. Pathological is defined in psychological terms as a type of compulsion that is characterized by an ability to resist overwhelming and irrational desires. Therefore, the gamblers who are pathological are inexplicably drawn to gambling but who have lost their ability to discernment as to when it's time to stop. Gambling becomes visit site , just like an addict. This is called Co-morbidity. People falling in this category need strong help to drive them out of this nadir.

This is the definition of gamblers along with the reasons behind what they do. Now let us try and figure out how one moves about in these stages. What is the main reason an individual enters the gambling world? In the past that for our forefathers, to avoid risk was an extremely risk that they could not afford to risk. In the current climate it's obvious that venturing into dark woods to search for the wild animals was a risky venture. It was their way of life. So slowly , but surely this ability to take risks has been boiled down in all of us. A novice gambler may not realize the risks and benefits of gambling, however, it's common sense for them to play. When you add the glamour and the high lifestyle associated with the profession it becomes a Herculean task to resist the bait. These games are typically designed in such a format that the gambler thinks that his skills are improving and he is closer then ever to winning. If the gambler isn't controlled, this can lead to an issue and eventually addiction. It is basically a mix of two common emotions: the desire to make a fortune without having to work to win it, and difficulty in giving up on that dream, no matter the level at which they're.
