A glue trap ends a days-long search in north Raleigh for a venomous zebra cobra.
As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, a glue trap snared a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

A red bucket was used to place the cobra in the bucket and to transport it to a location where all glue could be removed.

At youtube.com, a striped snake crawled out of the siding of a house on Sandringham Drive onto the front porch of a home earlier in the day. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.

When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.

A 911 call from the same location prompted the search early Tuesday morning.

North Carolina, Raleigh Following a 48-hour saga that garnered attention from across North Carolina, a glue trap eventually entrapped a venomous zebra cobra on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night, capping an event that garnered attention throughout the state.

A red bucket was used to guide the cobra into a safe location so that the glue could be removed from its body completely.

The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. When it lifted its head to look around, its hood was visible.

When officers confirmed it was the snake, they walked back from the camera crew before moving in to try and capture it.

An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

The ordeal has ended, said Joan Nelson, her neighbor.

I feel much safer and I am really happy, she said. After spending time on my deck, I feel like I can go outside now. Nevertheless, I feel somewhat sorry for the snake.

A striped snake lies out on a porch in a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has disappeared.

logan snake catcher Snakes can spit up to nine feet and are faster than most snakes. A morning dog walk turns into a dangerous event when the snake spits this wide. The African Snakebite Institute cites the snake as extremely dangerous. It is possible that the venom can damage a victim's nervous system.

An immediate reaction to the poison of a cobra is pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In addition to a heavy fever and breathing problems, respiratory failure could also result.

An experienced veterinarian, Dr. Salina Locke, treats all kinds of pets at the Avian and Exotic Animal Care.

The cobras in this species are not typically biting. She said they are more likely to spray their venom . they are very precise and go straight for the eyes.

Despite the risks associated with this snake, Locke does not recommend it as a pet.

During sleep, most bites occur. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.

Tuesday afternoon, police searched a home at 6917 Chamonix Place, near the last location where the cobra was spotted.

This home was visited four times by police during the month of March. Approximately half a mile away, they spotted the zebra cobra on a porch, prompting them to return on Monday and Tuesday.

Keith and Rebecca Gifford live at that address, according to county records. His Facebook account shows several pictures of snakes he claims are owned by his son, Christopher, according to the account.

Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers on his TikTok account. On one of his posts, he claims to own a 7-foot zebra cobra.
