TITLE: Social phenomenon: The common "Istambay" phenomenon among Filipino youths.

PROBLEM: Filipinos observed the common "Istambay" phenomenon are increasing in numbers among Filipino youths that could actually lead to problematic situations.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY: Social phenomenon involves a person's observable demeanor that actually influence others. The word "Istambay" came from a Visayan word which means doing nothing; loitering; unemployed; and the istambay phenomenon is complex and is evolving within the society.
International
Loitering among urban youth is often linked with group activities that occur in public places without having any
specific purposes. The activity is conducted together as a group among those who share the same values and
ideologies. This article analyzes the involvement of prosocial and antisocial activities among 636 young people
(423 loiterers and 213 non-loiterers), aged 13 to 25 years in at-risk areas in Kuala Lumpur (Chong, S. et. al, 2012).

National
In the Philippine culture of care and close-knit family relationships allow out-of-school, out-of-work youth to survive and helps delay the usual transitions to adulthood and all it implies — marriage, family formation, leaving the family home, and independent living. Derided throughout Filipino society for being lazy, istambays are a troubling fixture in Filipino society and the economy (Batan, C. 2014).
Local
In Davao, Some people hang out under the Bolton bridge to relax due to the shade and strong winds in the area. Kids waiting for their football game sheltered under the tarp just to see the game of the Philippine Azkals players (Lim, M. 2018).

This research is significant for every individuals to deeply know causes and effects of being an Istambay and to notify others that Istambay phenomenon should not be tolerated by individuals. This aims and provides possible and helpful solutions of the problem.
RESEARCH/INQUIRY QUESTIONS: The Istambay phenomenon is currently evolving and increasing in rate of istambay population that could lead to many issues and problems within the society. Specifically in Davao City, some people observed that there are many "Istambay" in the streets, malls, park, and elsewhere. This study provides the causes an effects of "Istambay" to spread awareness to individuals. The research involves both Qualitative and Quantitative research that includes interviews and survey questions for the chosen respondents only in Davao City.
INQUIRY QUESTION
1. How does an "istambay" influence other person?
2. If you are part of that so-called "tambay", don't you think that you cannot do anything else that will help you?
3. Is there a time that you ask yourself that what is the main reason why the "istambay" called "istambay"?
4. What do you think are the reasons on why a person becomes an "Istambay"?
5. What do you think are the effects of being an "Istambay"?
METHOD: In January 19, 2021, the group six members were assigned to search for respondents on the Internet and within their community that could definitely answer the interview and survey questions that is being asked. The members used cellphones to list down the names and personal information of the chosen respondents. The interview and survey questions were formulated by the group 6 members using microsoft word 2010 and gathered ideas to establish questionnaires. Hence, the respondents were assigned to answer the questions truthfully and appropriately. The members immediately gathered the data's and answers of the respondents and meticulously scrutinized the study.
