The narrator’s first step to change was to open his mind to other people and their attributes, with the goal to become less of a shallow, bitter, and rude man.
To make up for the compassion the narrator lacked for both his wife and the blind man, Robert, had to open his heart and show the slightest of emotions.
From the first paragraph, it was evident, through the use of short sentences, that the narrator did not care for much other than himself. He was opposed to the idea of hosting a blind man in his home and said, " A blind man in my house was not something I looked forward too," yet he was aware of how much the man meant to his wife.
He was so inconsiderate that he constantly questioned his wife's and the man's actions, "I can remember I didn't think much of the poem."
A prominent reason as to why the narrator was so negative throughout the beginning of the story, was because he only focused on judging the visual aspects of others. To figuratively close his eyes meant that he would lessen this judgement and become a better person as a whole.
****need to figure out how to organize the paragraphs and still answer the questions
-should it be organized by questions
-should it be organized by his progression
-or how I have it
****is it okay that the third paragraph contradicts the idea of him being “blind” because I am saying he should close his eyes for a different reason?
