Karl Marx and Max Weber were theorists who had contrasting beliefs on the future of Capitalism. On one hand, Karl Marx, the person who formed the concept of communism, the idea where there is no economic class and that all things are to be shared equally among the people, he believes that the people will only be in relations with each other if it involves money and when those people have a great class consciousness, they may eventually overthrow the bourgeoisie, ridding capitalism.
On the other hand, is a person who favors the bourgeoisie, Max Weber, who works off the protestant ethic that those who can build wealth and attain success will be "saved" and favored by god, supporting the bourgeoisie/ essentially Capitalism. Although both side do wish that the people in all classes have the potential to obtain a higher class and or just better footing in life, the contrasting fact is that Marx believes Capitalism will eventually fall with the growth of the ruling class while Weber wants it to continue because God will give them a better life if they do so.
The theory that will most likely happen will be Marx. If it were to be Weber, that would only be the case if everyone were to work hard but there will be those people who are too far ahead or unwilling to contribute to their lives since they feel that where they are right now is fine enough- maybe just lazy or unlucky in general. Since these people exist, and in a big amount at that, the gap in wealth becomes unreasonable. Even if they gained wealth, they may not think themselves as successful as the bourgeoisie. Knowing that they may have too much power, being that successful, the proletariats will eventually want to overthrow them if they abuse that power- like a Faustian Bargain, they won't know that the same wealth they wish for could be the end of them until it is too late.
