-Important Events-
In 1858, Young Louis Riel leaves his home in the Prairies Bound for Montreal
Father dies while Riel is still in school but Louis soon recovers
Dominion of Canada is born
There was a dream to build a railway and a country from sea to sea
In 1867, Sir John A. Macdonald (George Etienne-Cartier is his Quebec ally) is the new Prime Minister
Darcy McGee believes the new country can be built on mutal respect and tolerance
Darcy McGee was elected to Parliament with the help of West Montreal's Irishmen
On April 5th, 1868, McGee tells a friend of a nightmare. It goes like this. He was standing on the bank near the Falls of Niagara and he saw two men in a boat. He later ends up falling off the Falls.
After 2AM, McGee was shot through the head by Fenian James Patrick and Agnes Macdonald, John's wife, heard about the news.
MacDonald was furious at the Fenians and hundreds of Irish were arrested and thrown into the Ottawa jail without charges.
Wayland protested Patrick's innocence but he is convicted.
Thousands turned out for Darcy's funeral.
In 1866, Louis Riel decided to abandon his studies at college and decides to apprentice at law. He fell in love.
Since Louis is Metis, his wife left him and so he left Montreal and went to the Red River.
The Canadian wanted to take over Rupert's Land but never told the Metis or the Aboriginals.
Charles Mayer dreamed of a new Ontario on the prairies. English, Protestant and white. He encouraged people to follow him.
The head of surveys made a report. It says that a band of some 18 Metis led by Louie prevented them from moving further.
It was November 2nd, 1969 and Louis and some others decided to seize the Hudson's Bay headquarters at Fort Cary. They succeeded. They waited to see Ottawa's reaction.
