"World...ending? Aren't all dimensions going to die sooner or later..."
personality :
Naive. He tends to run more on emotion and short term gain than long term consequences. Even if he knows what he is doing is bad, he can't seem to grasp the concept and will continue to do it anyway. The only thing that he understands would be bad is if it would happen to him and him specifically, such as being punished or scolded. This has led him to choosing his words carefully, hesitating before speaking, and having no trouble omitting words or lying to one's face if it means he would get out of trouble. He hates making a fuss about things too, and would rather suffer in silence than bring up crucial pieces of information or correct somebody on a glaring misconception. If someone was going somewhere that Null wanted to go too, he would rather tag along silently than ask for permission to come with them. In fact, he tends to be rather quiet, only speaking when spoken to, his voice small and hesitant, and would rather tug on someone's clothing than speak to them for attention. It doesn't help that, when he does speak, he tends to be blunt and straight to the point, having never been taught to be polite. This has led to him being rather unequipped when dealing with people, floundering in 1 on 1 conversation. While not morose, he certainly isn't an optimist, making his conversations all the more uncomfortable.
He's much more comfortable showing his emotions through body language than words. A smile, a frown, a snicker. He'll dance to a song he likes while cover his ears when he dislikes a song.
He rarely questions the why of actions. If someone were to tell him that he couldn't do something, he'll nod without question, though that doesn't mean that he won't silently disobey the order. This goes to other people as well. If he talks unprompted, it's going to be a comment about someone, whether it be that they have wings on their back or their voice sounds distorted. It'll be stated as a fact, to which the other party can agree or disagree on, instead of a question. It sounds more a rude observation, which is true, as he more often than not blurts them out.
likes :
Souvenirs, other worlds, helping people, daydreaming
dislikes :
rules, expressing his opinion
hobbies :
arts & crafts, scavenging
skills :
Animal handling - His dimension raised animals, the same kind of animals that other dimensions have, even if all their births are octuplets and half the newborns have to be given to other dimensions. With so many animals, it was expected that he had to help sometimes.
Gardening - A small garden is enough to grow enough food to feed a whole country in his dimension, and he was expected to help on the garden as well.
Strength - There were many things that were needed to be carried, and while he wasn't forced to lift things that were much too big to be carried by a child, he is certainly strong for his age.
habits :
fidgeting with his hands
staring blankly into space
"I like other dimensions. They're neat."
home dimension :
%0|%0
about their dimension :
It's...a rather strange dimension. If someone from another dimension were to come, they would say that it's too small, that there isn't enough room for people to farm their land and grown food. However, at the end of each harvest (which takes much less time than any harvest should be) there is enough food that, when put into a pile, could rival the tallest mountain. People are only allowed to give birth once in their lifetimes, but it doesn't matter, as they always produce septuplets and half of them have to be culled, less the humans risk overpopulation. Their oceans rise a foot every year, and each rain brings a bigger flood than the last.
Some say, in the Beginning of Time, that the dimension was an ordinary one, but other dimensions started trickling their excess down to it, which is how so much came to be.
To prevent themselves from drowning, the inhabitants of this dimension started giving to other dimensions. Plants for dimensions without vegetation. Water for dimensions without rain. Minerals for dimensions that mined theirs dry. Land for the dimensions with only ocean. A child for the dimensions in need of chosen ones... Giving to other dimensions is less out of their own hearts and more a necessity to survive.
It's not just physical things, like humans and dirt and crops, either, but also mental things. No one is called a name in this dimension, as names can replicate just like the grass beneath their feet. First, someone gives themselves a name, then someone else sees the name and wants one too, and gives themselves one as well. More people see, and they are given names. More and more people want names, until everyone has names. Then someone else wants two names, and sooner or later everyone has two names. This goes on and on until a single person has so many names, they can write their names on a mountain and it will never be enough. And the problem is, unlike physical things that they can give away, they can't give away emotions, less they want to rip part of their soul out.
They never take anything from other dimensions either, for they already have enough. Just like their emotions or names, taking one thing, becomes taking two things, and they end up taking and taking and taking from other dimensions, which isn't good when they are already drowning in their own stuff.
do they remember their home dimension ? :
Vaguely. Not enough for any specifics, but enough that he remembers his souvenirs and the worlds he has traveled to, though it's starting to slip away.
reason they were sent to the world-in-between :
The boy was less seen as a glitch and more a virus. He has many names, more names than any person should have. He took and took and took from other dimensions, not seeing the ramifications of having so much stuff.. If he continued, the world would drown under the "souvenirs" that he had collected, things that should never have existed in the dimension.
"I like making things. I made my trinkets from other dimensions into jewelry. but I dunno where they are now."
backstory :
Born one of many, with half being culled, there was really nothing unique about him. He helped the others with giving the Excess away, as everyone needed as much help as they could get. From the harvesting to bringing items the other dimensions needed, he helped wherever he was needed.
The boy liked other dimensions, liked seeing what they had. He liked looking at the people dressed in much more fancy clothes than his (everyone was too busy in his dimension getting rid of what they have that they have no time fully commit as a seamstress or blacksmith) and calling each other strange words, unique to only them. The boy found interest in the words the other dimensions' people called themselves - names, he later learned. from a man with a lot of bone showing and stared at the boy for a long time before telling him - and gave himself one too. His first one was Null, but he soon grew dissatisfied with just one name and started calling himself more names as well.
The boy - who now started to quietly call himself names like Null, Scrap, and Trinket, even though it wasn't allowed - liked the different sights he saw in other dimensions and wanted a memento to keep even when he was gone, so he got the bright idea to start collecting souvenirs from the places he visited. They were often considered trash in the dimensions they visited, whether that be a shiny jewel or a rusted nail, the trinkets the boy kept were often no bigger than his small hand. He concealed them and brought them home, where he hid them so that he can look at them whenever he wants (But really, he didn't need to hide them, as everyone was so busy they don't notice a little Excess here or there, and it's often hard to differentiate something from one dimension to another).
Eventually, his collection grew too big to hide, and the dimension itself started to take notice of so many things that didn't belong. A little virus that brought in foreign things, the boy was. The dimension got rid of the virus and all the junk the virus brought.
The boy, whose names were so many he could write on a mountain and still have more, is now in the In-Between.
powers :
Dimension hopping - The barrier between his dimension and others was extremely weak, of which the dimension's inhabitants took advantage of to give to other dimensions. Null can do this too, though it's extremely unstable without the help of someone more experienced from his dimension. And while this ability is usually used between the home dimension and other dimensions, it can also be used between two unaffiliated dimensions, though this is a lot more harder.
theme song/playlist :
tba
trivia :
Has knowledge of how plenty of other dimensions work, as well as how dimension hopping works.
Blunt and curt when speaking, often leading to hyperbole putting his foot in his mouth when speaking.
