Notes - notes.io

Write a note in this area. It's really easy to share with others. Directed writing/transactional writing( in edexcel syllabus)
. You will have to write either a formal letter, an informal letter, speech, article or report . Unfortunately, there is no choice here as only one question is given
. Always follow the format
. Start your pieces of writing exactly as the question asks you to
. Ideally this piece of writing should have a minimum of 5 paragraphs
A introductory paragraph—an introduction to what you are going to write
B three body paragraphs—the three points given in the question
C concluding paragraph—what can be done/what you expect, suggestion, solutions etc
Nevertheless, sometimes it could exceed 5 paragraphs when you have subheadings—article, report, etc.
Article writing
The format
-The topic-
By: afeef ali
1st paragraph: what is it about
(Introductory) ²make it brief(3-5 sentences)
Body paragraphs: the 3 points given in the (2nd-4th paragraphs) question, 2 one point in one paragraph
3. 90% of your writing
5th paragraph: what can be done
(Conclusion)
2) why is it important
3) what difference does it make
4) what do you expect to happen
Notes for article writing
. The topic in an article should be the attention grabber or the hook in order to entice ( draw/ get attention) of the audience. This should not exceed seven words. It could be a statistic, a question a quote or anything else that grabs the attention and binds the reader to the article
The author's full name should follow the heading
Tye heading an d the author's name should be written in the middle of the page
The introductory paragraph
As you have already started with a hook there is no need to begin this paragraph with a hook as well. You should briefly state what this article is about/introduce the topic in this paragraph in about 5 sentences
Body paragraphs
. This is ideally a 3 paragraph section that covers the 3 points in the question
. Remember to write
Each paragraph should consist of :a) 1 topic sentence that governs the paragraph
B) 3-5 sentences to support the topic sentence. C) the concluding sentence or the paragraph which should basically summarize the paragraph and also it shoudl agree with the topic sentence
Proceed in this manner for all the 3 paragraphs—3 points.
. You can also have sub-headings and bullet points here. Doing so, will break your paragraphs down further bringing with it vivid and coherent( vivid clear/ precise. Coherent easy to understand)
Ot will also make your article stand out as the sub points that pertain to the main point are clearly defined when done so
. In this case your body will exceed 3 paragraphs
Conclusion
This paragraph should basically summarize the article you are talking about and answer one or more of the questions given in the format
. Just as you began the piece of writing with an attention grabber/hook remember to end your article with a clincher In order to retain the interest of the reader
. The concluding paragraph should be a brief one similar to the introductory paragraph
General points for article writing
The most important point is the heading or the topic which has to be eye catching attractive and hook the reader
. You can have subtitles of points to make your body paragraphs/details stand out and coherent
. Usually written in the first person( if the question asks you/your view) or third person( a general article)
. The writing style will be formal if written to a newspaper or semi/informal when written to magazines
. Remember your audience. The language you use, the descriptions you give etc. will change according to where your piece of writing is published example: an article written to a school magazine(for teachers and specially students to read) might have words like 10A, 10B, 10C etc. while an article written to a newspaper(where the general public will read) will be worded differently—students of grade 10 commerce section etc.
. You can supply examples, additional details etc. to support your points provided you cite your sources here ...
