This is yet another terrible move by the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Jones is good. He’s definitely top ten at his position. But he’s a running back. The Packers are coming off (another) NFC Championship loss, don’t have much cap space, and desperately need help at WR and CB. If they let Aaron Jones walk and spend that money on positions of need, the Packers are a better team, and there’s no way around that. What makes this even worse is that running back wasn’t even a need. The Packers drafted AJ Dillon in the 2nd round last offseason. What was the point of that??? Dillon has only three years left on his rookie contract, which means he likely won’t even be the starting running back for the entirety of his rookie deal. While Aaron Jones is good, what he does is replaceable, and his replacement was already on the roster. The Packers run game likely would’ve been just as good with AJ Dillon, and they could’ve had more money to spend elsewhere. The Packers better hope Aaron Jones can maintain high level play for the next 4 seasons, but even then, this is pretty much roster suicide. I also doubt he does that considering he’ll be 30 years old in the last year of his deal. It’s going to be tough to top this one.
