-Bromley Armstrong was a civil rights activist, who helped fight racism,
-Has also received many awards and distinctions for his social justice fight against racism
-awards he has received are:
1. He has received the order of distinction in Jamaica,
2. the order of Ontario,
3. He has received the Harmoney award for educating communities and organizations about human rights, and race relations in Canada for over 50 years.
4. For his lifelong battle and commitment against racism, York University gave Bromley Armstrong an honorary doctor of laws degree as well.
2. What they did/What happened
-Bromley Armstrong participated in sit-ins for restaurants in Dresden, which refused to serve people of colour
-Sit-ins were organized by the Toronto-Based Joint Labor Committee in order to fight racism
-The tests happened in front of the invited media's presence, which happened to be a powerful tool for Bromley and the human rights movement
-In October 1954, Bromley Armstrong travelled to Dresden in order to join the resistance activities that which were organized by Hugh Burnet and the NUA
-Armstrong accompanied Burnett to Kay's Cafe, which refused to serve them. This incident led the Ontario Premier Leslie Frost to publicly state the province's commitment and devotion to the anti-discrimination laws. The incident also led to the Ontario Human Rights Commission being formed in 1961.
