"Genderblind"... the term is so tone deaf on so many levels. Many people in the queer community do put a lot of thought into gender and what it means to them. Insinuating that this propensity is somehow wrong is incredibly hurtful on so many levels. What's equally troublesome, however, is what many (at least most I've spoken to) pansexuals take this term to insinuate about bisexuality. Yes, even if you personally don't do this, it is a massive issue within your community. Bisexuals, now and historically, have never been defined by a focus or particular care for gender. This transition in defining bisexuality has been problematic, widespread, but worst of all *not made by the bisexual community on any collective level.* The transition largely came more recently and from non-bisexuals who wanted to advocate for their "more inclusive" m-spec identities. People who thought bisexuality was intrinsically harmful on some level. This is an issue I CONSISTENTLY see pansexuals sweep under the rug the second a bisexual brings it up. There is a very objective continuous history of stereotypes pansexuality has created or exacerbated for bisexuality. Yet no matter how many sources, how factual and calm you are, bringing it up in any measure gets you pulverized by the pan community. I'm just so. fucking. tired.
