For a lot of us, working from home has been a blessing in disguise. Cutting those extra hours of commute every day, not having to dress up, and working from the comfort of our home are all "perks" of a post-pandemic reality. However, in this interview, Jimmie Dimon argues that not every industry can be fully virtually sustained and that it would actually be challenging to maintain a Zoom world because there is a lot more to office work than just task execution. You may be thinking, but who is Jimmie Dimon? And why should we listen to what he has to say? First of all, Jimmie Dimon is the CEO of JPMorgan, the largest investment bank and financial services holding company in America, he is also on the Board of Directors of Harvard Business School. As a respected figure in the world of finance, Dimon calls remote working an eventual carrots and sticks game due to the pressure that will in time be applied by certain industries. The fact that most of us learn through an apprenticeship system makes things like learning how to handle clients and intricate workplace predicaments, as well as inculcating character nearly impossible. Especially now that critiquing someone's work via a Zoom meeting may feel a bit rude. Conversely, a meeting in an open space opens the doors to so many possibilities, discussions, and the opportunity to build, develop and deepen professional relationships. With that said, even Dimon has been wrong in his predictions before, namely his infamous statement on bitcoin being a "Fraud"...
