I want my dancing and performance practice to constantly explode and decompose, explode and decompose. Studying Dance at Bennington, I feel a general disconnect and lag from the work that is supported and the work that is urgent. Why are we still silencing radical artists? Why are we still here? In learning from Marina Zurkow, the world of multi-species learning from others and not about has begun to slowly eat away at my practices, chewing them up and secreting juicy pools of lost, confused and re-inspired practices of urgency. The lichen parcticularly, have been at the forefront of this madness.

Put simply, I am in love with lichen. I am in love with everything about them, their green vibrant changing colors, their tempos, their deceptive stillness, the way the hug a surface and make home on it, the way their reproductive organs reach out as if calling on the world to listen. And there are thousands and thousands of different species, and how do we even call them species when they are multi-species? I am, quite proudly, lost in the tangles of lichen threads and lobes, lost in their intimacy of strangers, lost in their expansive, microscopic, elusive folds.

Where do you move on from lostness?

Having 6 days to be part of the BHH community and investigate these urgent callings would be an amazing opportunity to place this work outside of the tight Bennington context, and have the time and space to really be fully in the unknown. I have been searching for a container, a supportive platform which can allow me to make sense of these desires and questions. one which invites dance to move towards multi-sepcies worlds and asks us to consider our relationship to the land we are on.

Something about how I am really excited by the invitation of this resiedncy, and how its core values are really about performing for another audience, and honoring the land, recognizing your own relationship to the land that you are on. In a workshop I took this past winter with



In terms of my larger work, well, this is my work. I am not sure how it is affecting the whole of my being, but changes are happening, I can sense them in my stomach, where all the bacterias (perhaps I should start calling myself bacteria, for there are more of them than in this home I call body than human cells) are buzzing and sizzling and making and remaking me. cx

What seems to have been missing for me is a container, a supportive proposition for this work to live in. This is the first opportunity I have noticed explicitly values and calls for a performance for another audience, a performance that asks us to consider performing for the land. And this is precisely what I have been looking for.

I have been searching for a container, a supportive platform which can allow me to make sense of these desires and questions, these overwhelming tangles that I am lost in, and have the time and space to spread this work out away from myself and to start to learning together, and to start dancing again.
