when you run through topicality, it's very hard to win it over
-if pertinent, IT IS ESSENTIAL AND VERY IMPORTANT AND MUST BE BROUGHT UP FIRST
reasons to prefer = standards
RESPONDING TO TOPICALITY
- (already presented definitions in 1ac) so you need to attack THEIR reason to prefer with YOUR reason to prefer OR we need THEIR reason to prefer (rare cases)
- when coming up with definitions, don't just think "is this a good definition", think of how you would ATTACK it; think of the source of the definition (merriam webster is a great dictionary, credible, but it wouldn't be a good definition for things like transportation policy
-definition: can't use a synonym of the word
when using a topicality press
-don't choose a complex/complicated definition because it'll confuse judges, who will go with the other side if they are confused
- if it doesn't significantly change the
-analyse EVER SINGLE WORD in the resolution vs plan (such as "reform")
- go for the most obvious topicality press
- you can use multiple
- for research + definitions, you can search up "us code" and go to the Cornell university's website
