Okay, so imagine you encounter this child.
This child is content to spend their time at a playground sitting under the slide and examining rocks.
This child has almost no social awareness, which has upsides and downsides. They can’t tell when they’re bothering people or read social cues and micro aggressions, which isn’t helpful. On the bright side, they can’t tell passive aggression and are basically blind to being made fun of, which is extra helpful since they’re usually the new kid since the family keeps moving.
This child struggles immensely at written tests and timed tests. They can answer just fine orally, and can complete each test within the allotted time, but if they are aware of a time limit and/or have to write their completion rate drops like a stone. Because of this they struggle academically, despite being fairly proficient at the subjects tested.
This child also has an alarming frequency of what appear to be absence seizures: the type where they just sit there motionless for minutes at a time, often frozen mid-action (ex: with cereal spoon halfway to mouth), and don’t respond to most stimuli such as waving your hand in front of their eyes.
I’m curious—as someone who knows a few things, what would you assume about this child?
