Through their relationship, algae gets a protective structure, and fungi a source of energy, food. But they emerge into something greater than the sum of their parts: a beautiful, resilient, sensitive, ancient whole.
Lichen are good at homing: making intimate homes on surfaces that usually aren't prone to life.
