Ragnarok, in Norse mythology, marks the end of the old world, and the beginning of the a new one. One of the many signs of ragnarock was a three-year winter which had no summer after each winter. This eventually led to a final battle on the Vigrid Plain, where the gods and the frost giants along with the undead fought the epic final battle.

Odin, who had previously attempted to prevent Ragnarok from occuring ( as he was most afraid of the world ending), led the gods. They were assisted by the heroic dead, those who had died in glorious battle and had been specifically chosen by Odin. They had been taken to live in Valhalla and await the final battle. The frost giants were led by the fire god Loki and assisted by the unworthy dead and other monsters who all came from the underworld also known as hell because the ruler was loki's daughter who was called hel.

During Ragnarok the walls of Asgard, the homes of the Aesir, and the huge bridge Bifrost, will be set on fire by Surt the fire giant as well as all 9 worlds after the battle. The mighty Midgard serpent will be emerging from the turbulent sea and engulf the Vigrid plains, while it splashes its tail and sprays poison in all directions, causing huge waves crashing towards the landand unless Thor will sacrifice himself to destroy it. The Fenrir wolf will break free of his chains and kill Odin and then spread death and destruction untill destroyed . The sun and the moon will be swallowed by the wolfs Sköll and Hati. Even the world tree Yggdrasil, will shake the ground.

Two humans, hid in a sacred tree called Yggdrasil during the battle and didn't return until after the battle. When they emerged, they repopulated the Earth. Other survivors of Ragnarok included some of the gods, particularly Odin's brother Honir, Odin's sons Vidar and Vali, Thor's sons Modi and Magni. And, Balder, who was revived from the dead after the battle.
