Nótt & Dagr

Nótt (Old Norse “Night”) is a very beautiful giantess with hair as dark as the night. In the Prose Edda book Gylfaginning, chapter 10, states that Nótt is the daughter of a jötunn from Jötunheimr by the name of "Norfi or Narfi"; one of the first giants in Norse mythology. Nótt is described as "black and swarthy", and has had three marriages. Her first marriage was with Naglfari, and the two produced a son by the name of Auðr. Nótt's second marriage was to Annar, resulting in their daughter Jörð, the personified earth. Finally, Nótt marries the god Dellingr, and the couple have Dagr, who takes after his "father's people" in brightness and fairness. Odin took Nótt and her son Dagr, placed them into the sky with a chariot and a horse each, and they ride around the earth every 24 hours. She rides upon a black horse named Hrimfaxi.

Dagr (meaning "day" in Old Norse), also known as Dagur, is the god and personification of day in Norse mythology. Dagr is the son of Dellingr and Nótt. He is the second son of Nott, and has a half-brother Audr, and a half-sister Jord (mother of Thor by Odin), making him Thor's uncle. He is associated with the horse Skinfaxi. He appears in the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda. The term "dagr" is commonly used as a common noun meaning "day" throughout many Old Norse works.

Both of them are the representation of Day and Night; whilst Sól and Máni are the representation of Sun and Moon.
