while I pondered weak and weary.
Nestled in my web spun bright
I hunkered in for the long dark night.
When what upon my ears did fall,
but a chilling sound from down the hall.
Thump, kerthunk, thump, kerthunk,
closer to my quivering bunk.
I closed my eyes, all eight shut tight,
hoping to dispel my fright.
The door opened wide, the light spread quick,
and what I saw did make me sick.
A man, a brush, a can of paint,
be still my heart I may just faint.
He spotted me with laser focus,
like a cat upon a locust.
I scurried near and made to dash
away from the impending smash.
But then I heard a scream so shrill
it gave me just the slightest thrill.
A face in twisted grimace stared
upon my web up by the stairs.
He turned and ran back down the hall
much faster than a cannon ball.
I will share my story of the spider
who fought the man like a champion fighter!
For fear can make the strong man tremble
even if only the size of a thimble.
